The sled-hut, nearly entirely buried by drifting snow. Being on a lee slope did not help, but even on the plateau proper, just another hundred or so meters above me, there was still a massive accumulation of new snow...Fearing that I could not progress from this point, and for a few other reasons (for more info, read my interview with the Icelandic Alpine Club) I finally made the satellite phone call for an evacuation on the eighth night of the expedition...A very difficult decision, the first call for assistance I have ever made in 15 years in the mountains...
