One ongoing problem I had was condensation, though Haldor and I have now designed a solution. When cooking or simply breathing, water vapor is emitted to the air inside the sled-hut; it then condenses on the cool fabric walls and the ceiling, and it begins to īrainī, a real problem. I had more rain than usual because, since the sled-hut floor is not touching the snow, itīs much warmer than inside a regular tent, where the condensation normally turns to ice, which you simply brush off and then sweep out the door. The solution, essentially, is to allow more ventilation, but this has to be done without having the door open, as blowing snow always gets in through even the smallest openings. Halldor will add the vent system in the next few months. Image copyright Cameron McPherson Smith, 2003.
