The entrance to the sled-hut. After the march, you simply secure the sled-hut with appropriate anchors (ice screws for ice, pickets or deadmen, which are bascially large snow stakes), open it up, get inside and zip up the door. Far easier and lss dramatic than putting up a tent, with poles and so on, say, in a high wind. A snow saw and shovel are right at the door. The saw can be used to make blocks, which can be arranged in various ways to deflect wind some meters from the shelter, and the shovel is ready to be used to dig out, collect snow for melting, and many other tasks. Two vertical zippers close the door. Image copyright Cameron McPherson Smith, 2003.
