I made two attempts to cross the ice cap alone on foot in the winter of 2000-2001. Both attempts were defeated; the first by hurricane-force winds which destroyed my advance base camp, the second by a maze of crevasses which blocked my way forward. My third attempt was in December 2002. This was defeated by high snowfall on the ice cap plateau, which led to equipment problems in my prototype 'sled-hut'. A recent summary of the expeditions to date is here, in my interview with the Icelandic Alpine Club.
