MANY THANKS TO ALL SPONSORS OF THE SOLOICE EXPEDITION:

The Earth and Space Foundation

Patagonia is providing my main garment, a critical item: this is the Ice-9 one-piece shell, a hooded, head-to-toe, waterproof/breathable survival suit. No other suit approaches its performance.

LIFE-LINK International makes the world's best back-country essentials: they have provided the collapsing HMXD shovel that I will use to 'dig in' during snow storms.

BlueWater Ropes, Climbing and Rescue Gear. BlueWater is providing rope as well as a harness; these will be used for a wide variety of activities, including ascending mountainous terrain at the very beginning of the expedition.

Glacier Glove of Reno, Nevada, is providing the finest neoprene/fleece gloves: warm, waterproof, and windproof -- and with a 'sticky' grip that allows me to do delicae jobs without taking off the gloves.

Nielsen-Kellerman: Designers and manufacturers of Kestrel Wind/Weather Instruments. NK has kindly supplied a Kestrel 3000 Pocket Weather Meter, to guage wind velocity, temperature, humidity and other variables. I will use this to make a complete meteorological record of my trek, with readings at regular intervals.

Outdoor Research is donating a Mountaineer's Medical Kit, containing a full range of first-aid supplies. OR also make a wide variety of arctic-grade outwerwear (mitts, gloves, etc.), some of which I will be wearing on my crossing of the ice cap.

Orion Signals, Inc. 'Getting You Home Safely'. Orion is providing a complete saftey signaling kit, with flares for day and night signaling and smoke grenades for helicopter rescues and/or aerial search scenarios.

Pelican Products makes the world's toughest, most shock- and weather-resistant armored cases. Pelican is supplying my main instrument case, in which I will carry scientifi instruments, cameras and radio/navigation gear. From experience with Pelican cases I know that my electronics will be as safe as possible.

Next Adventure: 'Portland's Alternative Outdoor Store'. Next Adventure is giving me excellent deals on a variety of my equipment.

PowerBar Iceland will supply energy bars to supplement my Mom's special 1,000-calorie 'bombs', as well as PowerGel, which can be eaten quickly and provides a short-term boost.
* PATHFINDER *
* WANDS*

Pathfinder is making the wind- and weather-proof wands I will use in the event of running into crevasse fields so extensive that I have to ferry gear, as I did on my second attempt on the last expedition. These sturdy wands are hand-made by Roy Peters, a 40-year mountain veteran. You don't make it that long in the 'alpine game' unless you know what you're doing!
Involved Non-Sponsors

The Royal Geographical Society: I am a Life Fellow of the RGS, elected into the society in 1992. As on previous expeditions, I will be submitting an expedition report to the Expedition Advisory Centre in London.
