Mars Links

Hello and welcome to the MARS-ICE website. MARS-ICE is an international project in which high-school age students around the globe will follow the progress of the SOLOICE3 expedition, a 100-mile, solo winter ski crossing of Iceland's Vatnajokull ice cap. Simultaneously, students will think about the parallels (and dissimilarities) between exploration on Mars and Earth, and the eventual human exploration of Mars. Each student will imagine their own fictional exploration of that planet and produce a record of their 'idea-adventure': perhaps a detailed expedition plan, a diary of a future Mars explorer, or a series of artworks depicting their journey. Awards will be given for the most exciting entries in an international competion. The MARS-ICE project is supported by the Earth and Space Foundation, a UK-based organization dedicated to encouraging thought about the Earth not as an isolated 'bubble in space', but part of a dynamic universe.
